Here is what you need to know to make your decision on the Ford Taurus vs. Chrysler 300.

2014 Ford Taurus

The Ford Taurus first came into production in 1985. The 2014 Taurus has been completely updated with aggressive styling that is on par with the current trends in auto design. The new Taurus also features a new lane-assist system that will help you keep your car on the road at all times. Critics are calling the new Taurus one of the most well-equipped and fuel efficient sedans on the market. The 2014 Ford Taurus is comfortable and has a lot of creature comforts on board, including Sirius/XM satellite radio, Bluetooth capability and on-board navigational equipment.

But, what about power and fuel economy? The new Taurus isn't the same Taurus we saw back in 1985 when it was first released. That Taurus was bulky and square, and wasn't a real powerhouse. The new Taurus will set you back in your seat when you hit the throttle. The 3.5-Liter V-6 engine puts out about 288 horsepower. The engine is backed by a six-speed automatic transmission that gives you plenty of pep when you want to get somewhere. Power doesn't mean poor fuel economy, however. The new Ford Taurus gets 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. Those mileage ratings are near the top of the class. The new Taurus SHO is affordable, too; you can expect to spend around $25,000 for this great, family car.

The Taurus also offers the SHO option for this year. The SHO, or "Super High Output", model has some styling tweaks that make it even more aggressive and let everyone know that it shouldn't be messed with. The SHO model comes with the same six-speed automatic transmission. The 3.5-Liter Ecoboost V-6 engine puts out 365 horsepower. The SHO model is also all-wheel drive for added control. This model gets 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The 2014 Ford Taurus SHO lets you have your family sedan and still look great. The SHO will set you back a little more at the dealership; this model starts out at just over $39,000.

For those that want a fast family sedan, Chrysler brings back the SRT-8 package for the new 300. This model has a 6.4-Liter V-8 Hemi engine that puts out 470 horsepower. This engine is backed by a five-speed automatic transmission. The SRT-8 model gets approximately 14 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. This model starts out at just over $45,000.

So, what does this mean for buyers who are looking at the Ford Taurus vs. Chrysler 300? Critics give the Ford Taurus much better marks in most categories. Both cars are similar in size, but the Ford model gets much better fuel mileage. Both cars have similar horsepower output, but the Ford model gets better fuel mileage.
