In 1966, the Ford GT became the first American-manufactured car to win at 24 Hours of Le Mans.
This was huge. Le Mans is one of the premier motor races in the entire world, demanding both speed and endurance from car and drivers. As a newcomer, no one expected Ford to clear house, taking first, second, and third place.
The Ford GT went on to take first place for the next three years, and then suddenly dropped out, and never returned.
Until now.
Four Ford GTs are entered in this summer's Le Mans, racing for team Ford Chip Ganassi. Will they pull a full sweep of the winner's stand like they did 50 years ago?
We'll find out June 15-19 at the Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, France.
